Thank you @midwife_collective for this awesome post about the Ayurvedic Postpartum Nutrition course I taught this spring 😉
It was such a honor to teach to this bright and beautiful community of doulas!
I can’t wait to go back! “A few weeks ago we had Radha Schwaller with Bliss Alchemy come and do an Ayurvedic cooking class for us and as a doula appreciation for doulas in the community. .
We learned how to make several postpartum menu items: Ghee, First Days Porridge, Sweet Potato Bisque, Cinnamon Stewed Apples, Fresh Paneer Soft Cheese, Rejuvenation Stew with Ayurvedic Postpartum Herbs, Gingered Asparagus and Fennel. .
Y’all… it was SO yummy and SO informative. Radha Schwaller is a WEALTH of information and a true gem and resource for our community. .
She taught us that in Ayurvedic practice postpartum women are in a Vatta state. So they need sweet and warming foods that are soft and easily digested. And foods that are NOT stimulating. This means no garlic, onion or meat. The goal is to eat this for a full 40 days after the birth. .
I have to say this cramps my style of champagne and sushi plan for my theoretical postpartum meals. But I am of course loving learning about different practices in honoring the postpartum time. @bliss_alchemy @radhaschwaller”

Sometimes it’s difficult to know what would help our body feel better through all of the advice and self help books.
There is a lot of contradictory health information out there in books, online and more.
Ayurveda goes beyond fads and hyped trend diets to look at the elements in the food your eating, your daily habits and rituals, and the quality of your life force energy to see how this affects your body, mind and spirit health.
I’m offering an amazing price on my Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultations for the month of May so you can discover some gentle and healing rituals to bring forth your truest health. No fads needed.
PM or email me for pricing!

Spring Cleansing in Ayurveda comes from fresh foods prepared with the knowledge of spices, oils and vegetables that are naturally detoxifying in their nature.
Asparagus, also known as Maha Shatavari, strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, cleanses kidneys, eliminates toxins through the urinary tract, and lowers cholesterol.

Living means that what we are engaging in, eating, thinking and doing is supportive of vitality and health. It is pure and healing in nature. The food I cook and prepare for @yashodadevima s meditation classes and retreats is supportive of pure consciousness. I also cook like this for mamas in postpartum and for our Ayurvedic retreats.
Fresh, organic, local as possible, whole spices, no leftovers, no onions, garlic or nightshades. Just soothing and calming to the body (especially the nervous system), mind and spirit. #ayurveda #vedic #healing #retreat #selfcare #thesubtlemind #blissalchemy #love #boulder #foodie

Most people think of illness with the sight of this word. But let me reframe this for you. Postpartum is the completion a rite of passage that happens at the beginning of pregnancy. At birth, baby and mother are born and now in the Postpartum time, mother must heal in body, mind and spirit in order to fully step into her new role as a vibrant and truly healthy Mama!
My mission for true postpartum health is to hold a warm & sacred space for mamas that rejuvenates her body & mind and uplifts her spirit so that she can heal the past and embrace the future as a strong and happily bonded family.

Turmeric is an ancient medicine and super healing root!
In Ayurveda a herb is not healing unless it’s taken properly to balance the elements present and any unwanted effects. Did you know turmeric can be heating to the liver when taken raw and uncooked? This can have the opposite effect that most people desire, which is to decrease inflammation and increase liver health. Turmeric is properly taken when cooked, boiled or toasted to release the components that are aggravating to the liver. Thank you to Vaidya Mishra and Shaka Vansya Ayurveda for this information.

Nourishing a Postpartum Mama involves grounding foods that focus on the sweet taste: carrots, beets, sweet potato, fennel and warming spices such as cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, clove and pippali. .
Oh and lots of GHEE!!
I’m always honored to be serving in this sacred space!
